Carl Hammer on Timothy Greenfield-Sanders:
Timothy Greenfield-Sanders was born in 1952 in Miami Beach, Florida. He lives and works in New York City and Putnam Valley, NY. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from Columbia University in 1974 and his Master’s Degree in Film from the American Film Institute in 1977. Since 1987 he has shown with Mary Boone Gallery in New York. His recent museum exhibitions include the Castel Nuovo in Naples, the Miami Art Museum in Miami and the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv. In New York his work is in the permanent collections of The Whitney Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, The Studio Museum of Harlem, and The Brooklyn Museum. In 2004 seven hundred of his art world portraits were added to the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art. 250 of these images will be exhibited at the Museum Morsbroich in Leverkusen. He has had over 40 solo gallery and museum exhibitions worldwide. Timothy Greenfield-Sanders also has four books in print: Art World (Fotofolio 1999), Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (Alberico Cetti Serbelloni Editori, 2001), and XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits (Bulfinch Press, 2004) and Face to Face (Skira 2006).
